2012 DR Mission Team
DR Mission Team sends 101 local volunteers to serve
During the weeks of June 22 - July 7, the Dominican Republic Mission Team sent 101 short-term missionaries to La Romana to serve thousands of the poor, all in the name of Jesus. This is the largest group of missionaries ever sent - 91 volunteers during the first 10 days, nine staying for the full two weeks, and 11 more serving during the second week.
The group split into teams and provided medical clinics for over 600 without access to healthcare, provided food packages for over 800 families of hungry people, continued construction on the Good Samaritan Hospital, built two new homes for the poorest of the poor in Batey 50, provided educational programs and fun for hundreds of children, and shared the Gospel in numerous bateyes and barrios.
The highlight of the trip was Saturday, June 30, when all 101 missionaries held "Batey 50 Day" - a huge celebration of love and friendship with over 400 in attendance in this very poor village. The day included tshirts for all, a catered meal shared together (provided through outreach funds from FBC and Liberty Community Church), games and activities, a concert by the Maranatha Band from La Romana, clowns - all done to celebrate our oneness in Christ despite the material differences between Americans and poor Haitians/Dominicans. It was a day that will not be forgotten by both Americans and residents of Batey 50! Gloria a Dios!
