Rotary Scholarship for the Dominican Republic

The Wallingford Foundation (the charitable arm of the Wallingford Rotary Club) is again offering the "Ken Sause DR Scholarship" – a $500 scholarship for a Wallingford teenager/student to be part of the 2015 Wallingford Dominican Republic Mission Team. To be eligible, students must between 15 - 19 years old by July 1, 2016, and their primary residence must be Wallingford, Conn., or a full-time student in Wallingford. The deadline for submitting the application is December 5, 2015, and this summer's mission trip to the Dominican Republic is set for Friday, July 1 to Sunday, July 10, 2016.

DR Mission Team Experience a huge success!

The DR Mission Team Experience, held on April 10 at New Life Mountain Ridge, Wallingford, celebrated the efforts of hundreds of local volunteers and supporters who are bringing help and hope the poor in La Romana, Dominican Republic. Hundreds of guests at this year's event enjoyed a spectacular silent auction, fabulous hors d’oeuvres and treats, inspiring live music, and a very special  interactive experience.

This will be a very special worship service featuring Pastor Elza Phanord and Moises Sifren, CEO of the Good Samaritan Hospital. All who have taken part in a DR Mission Team trip over the last 25 years, their families, and all who have supported, sponsored, and prayed over this effort to help the poor are warmly invited. Following the special worship, there will be a Dominican lunch for all served. 


Matching Gifts Offered for Kitchen Project at Joe Hartman School

Any donations toward a kitchen project at the Joe Hartman School in La Romana, Dominican Republic, will be matched dollar for dollar, up to $5,000 in total. This $5,000 match is provided through the outreach efforts of the First Baptist Church of Walingford, CT. 

The plan is to build a working kitchen at the Joe Hartman School in order to provide food for the students to eat each day, as well as be used for lessons utilizing math, science, and cooking skills. Numerous studies show that poor nutrition has a direct effect on a young student's ability to learn.

A new primary school in Batey 50 is ready to open at the end of August - the first school of any kind to be located within this impoverished Haitian sugarcane village in the Dominican Republic!
