Since 1990, The First Baptist Church of Wallingford, Connecticut has led mission/work trips to La Romana, Dominican Republic. These trips have had a tremendous impact on those who have travelled to the DR to help build the Good Samaritan General Hospital, provide desperately needed medical clinics, and other related projects. This effort extends far beyond our church doors - many others from different churches, denominations, towns and states have joined us on our annual trips to the DR.

Annually we take between 60-70 people on our trip, ranging in age from early teens to their 80's! Our hosts in La Romana are the members of the Haitian Missionary Baptist Church. Their pastor, Rev. Jean Luc Phanord, tragically perished in the crash of American Airlines Flight 587 in Queens, NY on November 12, 2001. He started ministries like the Good Samaritan Hospital as well as projects to help thousands of desperately poor on the bateyes, remote sugar cane villages where the Haitian cane cutters and their families reside. Through the Lord's grace, the work continues today with over 60,000 people treated by the hospital each year.
